Jason Sudeikis: 'I'm definitely done' with 'SNL'

It's official: Jason Sudeikis is leaving "Saturday Night Live." The actor made the announcement on Wednesday while taping his appearance on "Late Show With David Letterman."

"I'm definitely done," he said when Letterman asked how long a person could work on the comedy program. "I'm going to leave. I'm not coming back next fall."

Sudeikis has been with "SNL" for a decade. He worked exclusively as a writer for the first two years, then in front of the camera for eight. He has impersonated several political figures, including George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Joe Biden. His recurring characters include The Devil on the "Weekend Update" segment, WXPD News anchor Jack Rizzoli, Sensei Mark Hoffman and many more. He's also done numerous celebrity impressions, including one of "Late Show" host Letterman.

Sudeikis isn't the first cast member to announce he was leaving "SNL" this year. Bill Hader revealed his exit in May after eight seasons on the show. "Weekend Update" host Seth Meyers is also on his way out, and will take over talk show "Late Night" after current host Jimmy Fallon heads to Jay Leno's "Tonight Show" desk next year. And Fred Armisen, who has been with the show since 2002, confirmed to Splitsider last month that he also will not be back.

Anthony Weiner, the leading candidate for mayor of New York City, apparently took the online identity of "Carlos Danger" and sent lewd pictures of himself last summer to a 22-year-old woman. The woman alleges the two engaged in an illicit relationship from July to November, when the two exchanged explicit sexual banter and more lewd pictures on the social networking site Formspring. This is according to The Dirty, a tawdry nightlife website run by a man called ?Nik Richie,? and BuzzFeed, a news site that captures stories going viral.

The timing of the allegations, as well as Mr. Weiner?s evasive explanations Tuesday, have opened another opera of political scandal, a now familiar drama of siren songs and vaunting ambition, the pressing fury of reporters, and a carefully orchestrated verbal game of apologies and vague denials. ?

"While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong," Weiner said at a packed and camera-clicking news conference late Tuesday afternoon. ?This behavior is behind me."

Last summer?s alleged online dalliance, of course, would be just a year after Weiner was forced from Congress ? also for sending lewd pictures to young women on social networking sites. In May, 2011, he first denied he had sent any pictures ? his Twitter account had been hacked, he said.

When he could no longer sustain his denials, however, he admitted he had lied, resigning the New York congressional seat he had won seven times, each with a majority of not less than 59 percent. Weiner also announced he would enter professional treatment ? another leitmotif of scandal.

Yet two years after his humiliating downfall, Weiner crafted a startling return, announcing in May a run for the city's top office ? a position to which he had long aspired. He was leading or near the top of most polls when the sequel to the 2011 scandal opened Tuesday.

Huma Abadin, a prot?g? and close confidant of Hillary Rodham Clinton, the former US secretary of State and potential Democratic nominee for president in 2016 ? not to mention a veteran of the kind of drama that played out Tuesday ? stood by her husband.

ANN ARBOR ? In 19 years, there has never been a rainout of St. Louis Center?s premier golf event known as the ?Golf & Glory? outing held at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor.

While the organizers held their breath as the rain poured down all morning for the June 25 event, by 9:30 a.m., the rain stopped. And following a 30-minute delay of the 10 a.m. shotgun start, the clouds parted, the sun came out, and another successful Golf & Glory Outing was underway.

There were 144 golfers who filled the course for this annual event, which supports the St. Louis Center in Chelsea.

This outing, founded by former NFL Lineman Bill Wagner of the Denver Broncos in 1994, brings together many former NFL and college football players and officials to share their time with St. Louis Center?s supporters for a great day of golf.

SLC Board member Tom Nowatzke, president of the Detroit Lions Alumni Association, draws in the celebrity guests who play every year, while Pistons play-by-play announcer George Blaha is the Celebrity Chairman. Red Wing?s radio broadcaster Ken Kal is also a regular supporter.

Locally, Norm Neuman of Chelsea and Ron Hingst of Pinckney chaired the event, which annually raises over $60,000 for the St. Louis Center.

David Helmer of Braun & Helmer Auction Service holds a sports memorabilia auction after dinner, and a raffle ticket drawing was held for a seven-day Alaskan Cruise. This year?s winner was Eileen Augustine, who bought the winning ticket at St. Mary Parish in Chelsea. Over 800 tickets were sold for the drawing.

The night before, on Monday June 24, Paesano?s Restaurant owners Michael and Bridget Roddy hosted a $100-a-plate dinner for 50 people in honor of Fr. Fortunato Turati, SdC., who spent 30 years at the St. Louis Center, and is now working with the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence at Mt. St. Joseph in Lake Zurich, Ill.

Jerry Jones: NFL 'closer than ever' to L.A.

OXNARD, Calif. -- Los Angeles is nearing 20 years without an NFL team, but Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doesn't think the second biggest market in the country will be without an NFL team for long.

"Closer than ever -- ever being since they left, which has been a long time much to my surprise and anticipation," said Jones on Saturday, when asked if the NFL was close to returning to Los Angeles. "There are some viable ways for a team or teams to be in Los Angeles. We've got some very talented and very qualified people that want to be a part of it that are not a part of the league right now. We, obviously, have people within the league that want this very much."

Jones spoke before his Cowboys opened up training camp in Oxnard, Calif., a coastal city 60 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Since 2001, the Cowboys have held at least a portion of their training camp in Oxnard eight times. From 1963-1989, they held their training camp in Thousand Oaks, Calif., which is 45 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

Last year, Jones' son, Stephen, who sits on the NFL's stadium committee, said getting a team in Los Angeles was a top priority for the NFL and Jones said that has not changed.

"I think we're closer," Jones said. "I say that not just wishing. I say that, technically, because I'm aware of some things that make sense."

Jones was hesitant to put a timeframe on the NFL's return to Los Angeles but did think progress was being made for it to happen in the near future.

"How long does it take to build a stadium?" Jones said. "I know how long it took to build one. The other thing is that there's certainly ways to do it without having a stadium ready. Those are some moving parts but you have to have the commitment [from the team], which for the people that make those kinds of commitments it starts that day for them in a serious way. I wouldn't want to give you a timeframe on it but I do think that the commitment and the substance with that commitment is right around the corner."

The Los Angeles Raiders and Los Angeles Rams played their last games in Southern California on Christmas Eve 1994 before moving to Oakland and St. Louis, respectively. Almost 20 years later, the Raiders and Rams, along with the San Diego Chargers, are the most viable teams to move to Los Angeles if they can't get their current stadium issues resolved. The Raiders and Chargers can get out of their current leases after the 2013 season while the Rams can get out of their lease after the 2014 season.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said the NFL is not considering expanding from 32 teams and if Los Angeles were to get a team, it would come via relocation.

Last year Goodell sent a memo to all 32 organizations that said no single team has any "presumptive right" to play in Los Angeles and that only the league can make a decision on relocation. Any franchise interested in relocating to Los Angeles must apply between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15 of that year, and prove it has exhausted all attempts to remain in its current location.

There are currently two proposed stadium sites for a future NFL team in Los Angeles.

Farmers Field, a proposed stadium in downtown Los Angeles by Anschutz Entertainment Group, and a competing stadium proposed by real estate magnate Ed Roski in the City of Industry. Both are "shovel ready" but need a long-term commitment from a team before construction can begin. If construction does begin, it could take up to four years to complete.

In the meantime, the NFL team that relocates to Los Angeles would play in either the L.A. Coliseum or the Rose Bowl.

There had been some speculation that AEG's Farmers Field was doomed after the company was taken off the sales block earlier this year and former president and CEO Tim Leiweke, who was the driving force behind the project, left the company. AEG owner Philip Anschutz, however, said he is still committed to the project and returning the NFL to L.A. and Jones said he likes the project and Anschutz.

"There are no misgivings at all about it," Jones said of Farmers Field. "It has outstanding people involved. Phil Anschutz is an outstanding individual and would be an asset in any way for any group to be involved with and he has quite a sports background and quite a background in venues so that project. I'm actually involved in a company that just hired the lead guy that was involved in putting that Farmers Field project together so all those people have a lot of talent. It's not a negative. It's a plus."

Jones, born in El Segundo, Calif., a city in Los Angeles County located on the Santa Monica Bay, spoke about his affinity for Southern California after opening his first training camp in nearby Thousand Oaks nearly 25 years ago and winning his first Super Bowl in Pasadena. He understands many in Los Angeles may be skeptical of the NFL returning to Los Angeles after being away for so long. There is a constant feeling that Los Angeles is simply being used as a threat for current teams to get new stadiums. In fact, since the Raiders and Rams left Los Angeles in 1994, 24 new stadiums have been built for 25 teams. Jones, however, reiterated the league's commitment to making it happen soon.

"I've never, ever been a part of any meeting or committee ever that didn't want, as quickly as we could, to get a team in L.A.," Jones said. "I've heard that that could be a threat to people moving their teams out but that's not right. We've always preferred to get a team here."

Kelly Olynyk: A good pick for the Boston Celtics?

But there's good reason for Celtics fans to be optimistic about center/power forward Kelly Olynyk. And let's face it, with the departure of Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett, Boston fans are searching for a silver lining.

Here's why Celtics general manager Danny Ainge traded up in the draft in order to get Olynyk.

Olynyk's no Kevin Garnett but he brings some needed size inside. At 7 feet, 234 pounds, he's a presence in the paint. He's smart (the son of a coach). He's a very efficient shooter, especially inside.

"This season, he took 63% of his shots at the rim and made 73% of them. Owning a variety of weird moves in the post, Olynyk has found many ways to be one of the most efficient players in the country, as he leads the NCAA in PER [Player Efficiency Rating] at 36.2.," points out Sam Vecenie of SB Nation.??

There are some who suggest that Olynyk may be a one-season wonder. He red-shirted in his junior year at Gonzaga to bulk up to play the post position. That turned out to be an intelligent move. He also has some international experience under his belt because he played with Canada's national basketball team while they were preparing for the Olympics.

While he's built to play the post, he's also got a 20-foot jump shoot ? something every successful big man in the NBA has today.?

Olynyk's weaknesses?

Well, Kevin O'Connor of?the Celtics Blog on SB nation is blunt in his assessment:

"His defensive game is nonexistent and he lacks the athletic tools to improve there. He's also not very good on the boards and gets pushed around despite his size. Olynyk lacks the athleticism to move side-to-side defensively, making him a liability in the pick-and-roll. Despite standing at 7-feet tall, he hasn't shown the ability to be a good rebounder at the next level."

Still, on balance, O'Connor likes Ainge's choice.

Taking his strengths, weaknesses, and long, floppy locks into account, what makes Olynyk a good fit for the Celtics?

Ainge is reportedly rebuilding the team around Rajon Rondo ? the one player he says he won't trade ? as well as Jeff Green and Avery Johnson. Ainge will likely use Jared Sullinger and Olynyk to fill the big power-forward shoes left by the departing Kevin Garnett.?

There's no question that this will be a rebuilding year for the Celtics. They will lose a lot of games, and fans will pin for the days of Rivers, Garnett, and Pierce.

But what Ainge finds appealing about Olynyk is that, unlike a lot of college draft picks, he can play in the NBA now. He has the size and shots. But he also has some room for improvement.

Boston.com sports writer Gary Dzen lists five reasons the Celtics took Olynyk, including this one:

"Olynyk is unorthodox, but he's gotten it done at a very high level for Gonzaga. There are two schools to drafting, and the Celtics seem to be moving away from the school of best athlete wins the day. JaJuan Johnson, who was the Celtics' pick in the 2011 draft, had the body but never developed the game.... On the other side, Jared Sullinger, Glen Davis, and Nate Robinson are examples of unorthodox Celtics players who have produced. Boston knows Olynyk can play."

And Olynyk's coach at Gonzaga, Mark Few, tells the Boston Herald's Tom Layman that his former big man has the intangibles to succeed with the Celtics.

?I think he?s a highly competitive person and player,? Few said. ?I think it?s not something he will fear and it will be something he will look forward to. You just put him on the floor and he?s going to do whatever it takes to win.?
