I envy people who demonstrate many talents, especially when those are expressed tastefully. Apart from envy, I also admire people who seem to produce a lot of skillful art and design pieces, while incorporating different techniques into their work. More than anything, I like to see a variety. As if directly touched by factors such as style and taste, the reason we are often able to recognize the person standing behind a given piece is monotonousness. That is, of course, not to say boredom, but rather an authentic seal or an aesthetic fingerprint that gives a piece its character, climax, and sometimes inferiority. Sam Richwood strikes me as the kind of artist that one day many will look up to.

Spain bond demand stays high, economy shrinks (Reuters)
MADRID, Feb 16 ? Spain saw solid demand for its debt on Thursday, easily shifting what it wanted to sell at a bond auction, although concerns about Greece's second bailout and the fragility of some of the euro zone's riskier economies pushed financing costs higher.
An auction in France also attracted good support, leaving two-year yields below 1 percent, showing investors continue to favor the stronger north.
Underlying the problems facing Spain, data on Thursday showed its economy -- which is facing even more austerity -- contracted in the fourth quarter for the first time in two years. By contrast, France earlier in the week reported higher-than-expected growth.
While demand at the Spanish auction was high, the average yield on a three-year offering jumped more than 47 basis points from its last outing in early February.
"There's pressure on the prime minister to enact more austerity especially considering their target for this year. Effects of austerity and ambitious deficit targets, it's just a reflection of the general fear that's in the market," strategist at 4Cast Jo Tomkins said.
The premium investors demand to hold Spanish over German debt rose to around 381 basis points, around 25 basis points from the close on Wednesday, after euro zone finance ministers failed to agree on a second aid package for Greece.
"We've seen the Treasury hit the maximum target for its bonds, with strong demand, which is a sign of confidence in the Spanish economy and the measures that are being taken," said Economy Minister Luis de Guindos in Parliament on Thursday.
The economic picture, however, was grim.
Gross domestic product shrank by 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter on a quarterly basis after stagnating in the third quarter, final official data showed, as an economic slump which began almost five years ago dragged on.
In 2011, the economy grew by 0.7 percent compared with a fall of 0.1 percent in 2010.
Spain had been growing at an above-average rate since the country entered in to the euro zone monetary union 12 years ago, but the boom was largely due to the housing expansion fuelled by cheap loans and has been struggling since the 2007 crash.
In the fourth quarter, exports were the only sector to show growth with industry surviving solely because of demand outside of Spanish shores, though even that is slowing as the economies of Spain's main trading partners stumble.
Meanwhile, Spain's new government is fighting to reduce a budget deficit it has estimated at 8 percent of GDP in 2011 to a target of 4.4 percent this year, implying necessary savings of an estimated around 45 billion euros ($58.80 billion).
"Given the need for fiscal consolidation in the country and the pressure that puts on domestic demand, it's going to be very difficult for Spain to avoid recession," RBS economist Nick Matthews said.

Spanish lenders borrowed record sums from the central bank in January to buy higher yielding sovereign bonds and make inroads into looming debt mountains of their own.
"The market is clearly price sensitive now, as shown by the quite large tails. This is good funding progress for Spain but in the very short term there may be some cheapening as the market absorbs the paper," rate strategist at Credit Agricole, Peter Chatwell said.
Spain sold 2.3 billion euros of a bond maturing July. 30, 2015 at an average yield of 3.322 percent compared with 2.861 percent paid at the last primary auction on February 2.
The bond was 2.2 times subscribed, compared with 1.6 times earlier in the month.
The Treasury shifted 733 million euros of the other 2015 issue, maturing January 31, at an average yield of 2.966 percent and a bid-to-cover ratio of 4.4, and 1.1 billion euros of a bond maturing October 31, 2019 with a 4.832 percent yield and 3.3 times subscribed. ($1 = 0.7654 euros)

Obama also planned to announce that the Commerce Department will hold the first annual SelectUSA Investment Summit, bringing companies in to meet with governors, mayors and others to discuss ways of promoting investments in the U.S.
The president was making his economic pitch as Congress was poised to advance a key component of the jobs agenda he unveiled last September. House-Senate negotiators reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on extending a payroll tax cut through the end of the year and renewing jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed. Lawmakers were expected to unveil the proposal Wednesday and could send the measure to Obama as early as this week.
The extension would be a win for Obama, who has said the cut in the Social Security payroll tax ? amounting to about $40 per paycheck for the average worker ? is vital to keeping the economy on the right path.
"Congress needs to extend that tax cut ? along with vital insurance lifelines for folks who've lost their jobs during this recession ? and they need to do it now, without drama and without delay," Obama said Tuesday. The manufacturing sector was hard-hit for more than a decade. Manufacturers shed 5.8 million jobs from 1999 to 2009 as many companies shifted jobs overseas to take advantage of lower costs and many plants were modernized and automated, allowing firms to do more with fewer workers.
But the sector has shown more vitality in recent months, bolstering Obama's case. Manufacturers added 50,000 jobs in January, the most in a year, and added 237,000 jobs in 2011, the largest annual boost since 1997. Of the 3.2 million jobs added by the economy since February 2010, about 400,000 are in manufacturing.
Obama carried Wisconsin by 14 points in 2008 but is expected to face a more difficult challenge this year after Republicans captured nearly every statewide office two years ago and the president's standing declined in parts of the Midwest. Obama's visit coincided with the one-year anniversary of the first widespread protests against proposals from Republican Gov. Scott Walker to effectively end collective bargaining rights for most public workers.
Walker was expected to greet Obama on the airport and join him for the event at Master Lock. The governor has been targeted for a recall election that could come in the spring or summer and sought to define the recall election as a bellwether of how Obama will fare in Wisconsin next fall. Walker has said a win would deliver a "devastating blow" to Obama's re-election campaign.
Most of Obama's trip will be devoted to fundraising. The president is holding eight fundraisers for his re-election campaign in the Los Angeles area, San Francisco and Seattle.
After departing Milwaukee, Obama was to attend two fundraisers in Los Angeles. The first is an outdoor fundraising reception at the home of soap opera producer Bradley Bell and his wife, Colleen, featuring a performance by the rock band the Foo Fighters. The campaign expects 1,000 supporters to attend, with tickets starting at $250.
Obama is also attending a dinner at Bell's home co-hosted by actor Will Ferrell and his wife, Viveca Paulin. Eighty people are expected to attend the dinner, with tickets costing $35,800. The fundraising will benefit the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee for Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Tired of all those lists of the ?worst? games that are actually just commonly-known sub par games? I am. So I made this list. These aren?t just ?mediocre? games? this is my worst of the worst. BANGKOK ? Carrie Jeffers feared she would never kick her heroin addiction after relapsing repeatedly in her native Michigan. Then she flew to Thailand, and her life changed.
Jeffers, a 37-year-old yoga teacher, says she broke her dependency thanks to treatment at a remote Buddhist temple. The rigorous regime includes meditation and the daily ingestion of a foul-tasting herbal drink that induces projectile vomiting to cleanse the body of toxins.
?I got my strength back slowly but surely after the treatment,? Jeffers said after spending months at Thailand?s Thamkrabok Monastery, a drug rehabilitation center in Saraburi province about 90 miles north of Bangkok.
The center, in the heart of a sunlit forest surrounded by limestone crags, has won a worldwide reputation as a place with harsh but effective addiction treatment and has attracted thousands of foreigners from Europe and the U.S.
Harsh, but effective
Jeffers said she had been addicted to heroin since the age of 14 and underwent rehab treatment twice in the United States. The fees were $1,000 a day, which, fortunately,?were covered by insurance. "A lot of drug addicts don?t have that [insurance] and they get turned away,? she said.
Thailand's Thamkrabok Monstery is an unlikely drug rehab center. But it has won a worldwide reputation as a place with harsh but effective addiction treatment and has attracted thousands of foreigners from Europe and the U.S
Thamkrabok, by contrast, offers its services for free. And Jeffers said she found it far more effective than rehab in the West.
?At other rehabs they feed you drug after drug; there is no meditation or teaching you to look into yourself,? she said.
Monks at the temple say another key to the success of their treatment is the special tonic, made with 108 herbs according to a secret recipe.?
?I remember feeling a kind of a burning sensation, but it soaked up all the toxins,? said Jeffers, who is now helping teach yoga to foreign patients at the temple.
The Thamkrabok monastery has another rigorous feature: addicts must take a vow swearing that they are 100 percent committed to being drug or alcohol-free. They can only be admitted to the monastery for treatment once; if they break their vow, they are not allowed to return.?

At Thamkrabok, everyone is treated equally regardless of wealth or status. Patients have to wake up early each morning to clean their bedrooms and bathrooms, and sweep the temple compound. They all wear the same red uniforms and sleep in dormitories on thin mattresses closely packed together.
The detox center is a complex of low-rise whitewash concrete blocks set apart from the main compound, which is dominated by several giant Buddha statues.
"It?s very humbling here. It doesn?t matter who you are, you are using the same bed,? said Jeffers, who plans to return to the U.S. in May.
Some don?t last. Pete Doherty, the controversial British singer and former boyfriend of model Kate Moss, was a patient at the temple but only completed three days in 2004 because he found the treatment too austere. One of the monks told me that Doherty lacked the patience that the treatment required and that he did not enjoy the spartan living conditions.

India's Supreme Court deals blow to corruption - and foreign investors (+video)
India?s Supreme Court has ordered the government to cancel telecommunications licenses awarded in 2008 that are at the center of one of the country?s largest corruption scandals.
India's Supreme Court today issued a landmark decision against government corruption. The move will ultimately raise international confidence in India, but in the short term investors may stay away while the country cleans house.

The ?2G scam? ? which became India?s largest public corruption scandal ? robbed government coffers of about $40 billion.
