Los Angeles Dodgers SS Rafael Furcal is approving the trade to the St. Louis Cardinals. He needed to sign off on the deal since he is 10-year veteran, with five years with the same club.
In yet another injury-plagued season, Furcal has struggled to get going. His three stolen bases this month have been his best sign of faint hope. Although he moves to a better lineup, it's a team that doesn't run much - they've taken the third fewest bags in the majors.
Still, maybe getting out of a downtrodden Dodgers environment will rejuvenate him. It's a long shot, but maybe one worth taking if your deep mixed MI crop needs a spark.
It doesn't look like this trade is going to be finalized until Sunday, so check back for a full wrap-up of the other players involved.
The Texas Rangers acquired RP Koji Uehara from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for 1B Chris Davis and SP Tommy Hunter. There's money involved in the deal, as well.
With Uehara now setting up Neftali Feliz, this assures Kevin Gregg remains the Orioles' closer.
The O's are trying to shop 1B Derrek Lee, so Davis could become the regular replacement, sustaining his AL-only value and giving him some cavernous mixed worth. Hunter could jump into Baltimore's rotation, but that doesn't help his fantasy value.
The Detroit Tigers have acquired SP Doug Fister and RP David Pauley from the Seattle Mariners, in exchange for SP Charlie Furbush, OF Casper Wells, minor league 3B Francisco Martinez and a player to be named later.
Fister has been a victim of bad luck and poor run support, so going to a team with a legit lineup warrants a decent bump for his value. But despite his increase in K's, he's a soft-tosser who relies on control. He's due for a slight correction, but ride him while he's hot.

Pauley has little value outside of ratio help in deep leagues, and this move doesn't put him closer to saves.
Furbush will likely get a shot to stick in Seattle's rotation this year. He has talent and moves to a better pitcher's park, but he's still a low-level fantasy investment best saved for AL-only games.
Wells has attractive power but has not shown much more than being a highly skilled fourth outfielder. He's worth watching or speculating on in ALs in case he works his way into Seattle's lineup.
Keeper leaguers should keep an eye on Martinez, though the 3B depth chart on the farm also holds the promising Alex Liddi, so Seattle might have to trade one for either to get a shot in the future.
The Kansas City Royals have traded 2B Mike Aviles to the Boston Red Sox, in exchange for SS Yamaico Navarro and P Kendal Volz.
Aviles probably will act as depth behind Marco Scutaro and Jed Lowrie, when he returns from his shoulder. His versatiliy could see him start once or twice a week, but this doesn't help his fantasy value much unless you're desperate for AL-only middle infield help. He'd need an injury to work his way into mixed-league relevance.
Navarro can play almost every non-pitcher and -catcher position and should be considered for a long-term spot in KC's future. He has solid power for an infielder that's worth keeper monitoring.
Volz has built an impressive minor-league body of K work in relief and could make his way up to KC in the next few season as a setup reliever.
The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired IF/OF Jerry Hairston Jr. from the Washington Nationals, in exchange for minor league OF Erik Komatsu.
Hairston is chiefly valuable in the deepest NL leagues.
The Nats netted Milwaukee's 2010 minor league player of the year; Komatsu's power is still developing, but he has a solid contact bat. He's worth monitoring in keeper setups but probably won't be an MLB factor until 2013.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired SP Jason Marquis from the Washington Nationals for minor league SS Zach Walters.
Marquis is just an innings eater that goes to one of the best hitter's environments. He's NL-only depth.
Walters is having a decent 2011 and gives the Nats a future alternative should they decide to trade Ian Desmond this weekend.
